Canton, Ohio (01/15/2019) – St. Raphael Center, Inc., located at 4365 Fulton Drive N.W., has served the Catholic community of Stark County for nearly three decades. The center is expanding its services by becoming the new home of DS Music Productions, which produces the music of world-renowned recording artist DANA. DANA made history in 1970 by becoming the first winner of the Eurovision Song Contest. She later became a television host for EWTN, was elected to the European Parliament from 1999-2004 and in 1997 became the first independent candidate to seek a nomination for the presidency of Ireland.

“Our center is proud to be the home of this musical sensation that has captivated the world for decades,” said Barbara Gaskell, director of St. Raphael Center, Inc.  “We are blessed that DS Music Productions has chosen Mother Angelica’s hometown of Canton, Ohio, as its home base. DANA and Mother were good friends and colleagues. I am sure that Mother is smiling down on all of us today.”

The St. Raphael Center, Inc. will house more than 12,000 albums and DVDs that will be distributed throughout the U.S. and Canada. DANA is a longtime friend of the center and the Living Bread Radio Network. When the opportunity arose for DANA and DS Music Productions to move operations from Connecticut to Canton, Ohio, it was an easy decision.

“We love the Catholic community center that Barb and her team built over three decades of business,” said Damien Scallon, DANA’s husband. “My wife continues to share her God given talent with the world, and now Canton, Ohio, will be the center for her distribution in North America. It is our hope that a new generation will discover her message, her talent and her love of the Catholic faith.”

DANA rose to popularity after winning the 1970 Eurovision Song Contest. She became the first Irish winner and captivated the continent with her #1 hit “All Kinds of Everything.”  In the 1990’s, Canton’s own Mother Angelica invited DANA to sing on her Eternal Word Television Network (EWTN). She later become a television host on the network with her own popular show “Say Yes” and later again with “Dana and Friends.”  DANA sang for Pope John Paul II in 1993 at the sixth World Youth Day in Denver, CO, with her self-co

mposed hit “We Are One Body.” She would later sing at the World Youth Day celebrations in Rome (2000), Toronto (2002) and Sydney (2008). In 1997, she entered politics in her home country of the Republic of Ireland. She ran for the Irish presidency in 1997 and again in 2011. Scallon was elected as a member of the European Parliament in 1999 as a MEP for Connacht–Ulster.

St. Raphael Center, Inc. opened its doors on Sept. 15, 1989. The center began as a 300 square foot space and has since grown into the 7,500 square foot multipurpose facility on Fulton Drive. St. Raphael Center, Inc. is home to St. Raphael Books & Gifts, Living Bread Radio Network and the Mother Angelica Tour. It is a non-profit organization that was formed to help others find Christ alive in their lives.
